In every classroom, there will be students of all sorts. As teachers, we need to create a "tool belt" of ideas to be able to have a handle on different scenarios and/or problems. In regards to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), there are many ways to help students stay on task and be proactive in their learning. Here is a list of ways to help your students: (tecnícas para los estudiantes con ADHD)
1. Having a planner with the day all planned out. This will provide them the structure that is needed to complete their day. This can also be reinforced with a timer so they are able to get a glimpse of time management.
2. Fidgets to help release excess energy that is all bundled up and prohibits learning. Bouncy ball chairs can also be exchanged for their normal chairs so they can have something to move on while listening in class.
3. Have mini breaks for the students to have a snack or do some sort of physical action that can release built up energy
4. Place the student's seat near your desk so you are able to monitor their work progress. This will also help you keep them on track when you can catch the distracted behavior.
5. Focus on the quality of the work and not the quantity. The most important part is that they understand the material to put into their schema. Student may not always be able to maintain the focus needed to complete multiple examples of the same material.
6. Repeat and simplify instructions. Student may not always have background knowledge or attention span to understand wordy directions that are only repeated once. Make sure to simply the directions to their level and repeat it orally and written.
