Primero, voy a contarles acerca de PBS....
Positive Behavior Supports is a school wide idea that helps create a safe and meaningful learning environment through out the school by teaching social skills that the students may lack. This method is based off the prevention and intervention three tiered chart that is shown below.
The first tier involves the whole school. The students are taught social skills and behaviors to give them tools to be able to interact in the real world. Positive reinforcements are given to the students if they follow the procedures demonstrated and set at the the beginning of the school year. For example, some schools follow the "Respectful, Responsible, Ready to learn" approach. This approach grants the students extra gym time if they follow the procedure or they are entered into a drawing to win a prize for being good.
The second tier involves some students. This is for some students who may be struggling with behavior or need more direct instruction on how to act or gain a social skill. More support is given to these students so they are able to succeed. Schools can create programs like "older student mentors" where the older students who are selected by the school to participate in a program where they keep the younger students accountable for following the rules and help them with their social skill development.
The third tier involves few students. This is the tier that involves functional behavior assessment and individual behavior plans. In this tier, it is necessary to have parent collaboration along with the IEP team. The students will need intensive academic support and a specific plan of action to develop the social skills needed to do integrate in the school environment.
