Behavior Plans/FBa
Functional Behavior Assessment Plan
Functional Behavior Assessment plans collect (colecionar) and analyze (analizar) behavioral data on students as well as the circumstances under which the event occurred. When a student has an "emotional disturbance", the teachers who interact with the student, administrators, and school social worker/psychologist fill out a functional behavior plan to determine the stem of the problem, "why is the student reacting in this manner?". This is commonly part of the pre-referral stage of the IEP. This information is then carried over into the behavior plan.
Behavior Plans
Behavior Plans utilize the information from the FBA and develop a plan that states the behavior and the steps on how to change it. By following a Behavior plan, the student can overcome a behavior that prohibits them from their full potential. Besides documenting the incident and the determining the problem, the behavior plan addresses the "how". How can we begin to eliminate the behavior? The teacher and administrators must take into account that the behavior will not change right away. It will take baby steps to notice an improvement in the student. While filling out the behavior plan, the team should only try to focus one goal (una meta). By focusing on multiple goals, it will be difficult to notice the change or difference. It will be overwhelming to try to change multiple aspects of a student and expect rapid changes. Once the form is filled out, it is very important that everyone is up to date with the plan and that the plan is realistic and executed every day. Failure to follow the plan can lead up to problems for the student as well as the school.
